McGuire began writing about the challenges of creating and sharing music in the modern music industry in his late twenties before going on to explore a variety of other subjects including art, humor, travel, relationships, and healthcare. He has a knack for bringing a disarming sense of compassion and emotional awareness to interviews with subjects ranging from celebrities to business leaders. McGuire has interviewed songwriter Ray LaMontagne, comedian Hannibal Buress, and many other artists and performers. His articles have appeared in Slate, Variety, and numerous alt-weekly magazines.

McGuire writes and performs intimate folk and alternative pop music as Straight White Teeth. In 2018, his melancholic ballad “Lifetime” charted at #6 on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic show in Los Angeles. His last two albums have been published by ThinkSync and the Music Playground. McGuire has toured extensively across the United States as Straight White Teeth and with his former band Flashbulb Fires, and has shared stages with a diverse range of artists including Sharon Van Etten, Imagine Dragons, The Oh Hellos, and Minus The Bear. McGuire lives in Kansas City, Kansas with his wife, Miriam.
